KARMA HISTORY
Virginie and Laurent first discovered the breathtaking beauty of Koh Samui during a vacation in 1997. Captivated by the island’s charm and the warmth of the Thai people, they returned to France with a single dream: to make Thailand their home.
As entrepreneurs, they sold their European business and, together with their children, took a leap of faith by moving to Koh Samui. Their journey began with the opening of SIDDHARTA SHOP, a chain of jewelry and clothing stores that quickly gained popularity for its unique and original offerings.
In 2004, they launched the now-iconic KARMA SUTRA restaurant in Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village. It was an instant success, celebrated for its distinctive decor and high-quality cuisine. KARMA SUTRA became a must-visit destination on Koh Samui, earning international acclaim.
Building on this success, Virginie and Laurent expanded their culinary ventures with a series of successful restaurants across the island. They also began investing in real estate, purchasing land and constructing unique, artistic villas, a venture that laid the foundation for future projects.
In 2013, they opened the BEACH BY KARMA SUTRA, Koh Samui’s first beach restaurant integrated into a hotel, further cementing their reputation for innovation.
Five years later, in 2018, they joined forces with their friend John to create KARMA RESORT, a boutique hotel on Bophut Beach. The resort quickly became a benchmark in Koh Samui’s luxury hospitality scene.
Undeterred by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, they embarked on a bold new project in 2021, building SPIRIT OF KARMA, a collection of 13 luxury villas on Bophut Beach.
In 2022, they brought their culinary expertise full circle with the opening of KARMA DELI, a delicatessen-style restaurant inspired by traditional Lyonnaise eateries, a tribute to their French heritage.

In 2023, they unveiled their latest venture: KARMA SHANA RESIDENCE, an exclusive development that embodies their vision for innovative and sustainable living on Koh samui.
